Our eyes see very little and very badly** – so people dreamed
up the microscope to let them see invisible phenomena; they invented
the telescope…now they have perfected the cinecamera to penetrate
more deeply into the visible world, to explore and record visual phenomena
so that what is happening now, which will have to be taken account
of in the future, is not forgotten. - Dziga Vertov

The montage of Vertov and Eisenstein isn't generally in style right now, but its magic is practiced within contemporary experimental cinema! I like to think that a tiny silvery thread is woven into the editing of my videos . . . Montage is magic! Dziga opened a window into cinema for me when he wrote about kino-eye as the MICROSCOPE of time and the artist as engineer. With a microbiology degree and a family of engineers (& speech therapists & nurses!), Soviet Constructivist cinema seemed so marvelous and accessible . . . Long live visual music!!!

And by the way, everyone can be an artist!
