I have been dreaming for quite awhile about writing a blog post announcement that my film/video is finished. I initially began working on this piece two years ago, and even I marvel at how long it took to complete. . .
In the beginning I was gathering super-8 footage, and just kind of hanging out with the film, not really making a movie . . . Then I was using the optical printer, and this is the you can't afford me part of the filmmaking process, so the optical printing took a long time . . . And then I decided I wanted more super-8 film, and then there was Winter! Not only this, but I had to use three NY film labs for three different purposes and a video lab and last but not least, Final Cut Pro!
So I am happy to report that I finished this piece just last week. The final version is on mini-dv, but this is a real film/video hybrid, the best of both worlds! (Fly like a bird, hover like an insect.) (That last comment will become clear in a few days!) This work simply would not exist without film, nor would it exist without FCP. My friend, Tim Reardon, performed a miraculous save as my Final Cut skills were being tested all the way, and he helped with the sound editing too. Thanks, T!
So here it is:
THE GARDEN DISSOLVES INTO AIR by Jennifer MacMillan, super-8 to 16mm to video, color, sound, 6 min.

J.~This is momentous news!
I'm excited for you.
Since I won't be able to see it in person, perhaps one day when it is on DVD, I will get to see it.

Hi Courtney! Thanks so much! I wish you could be there too. But we would like to repeat the show at some other very interesting venues, so maybe there will be another opportunity.
And I received the info yesterday about how you made the film, and I have some questions for you. This info is really interesting. I am looking forward to the lipgloss film. My first reaction was, "No you did not!" Too brilliant. Estee Lauder has some good shit. :)
